Cairo, Egypt – March to May 2025
With a $10,000 USD donation, EHO partnered with the Single Mothers Association to deliver two rounds of urgently needed aid to Eritrean refugee families across Cairo. This initiative, focused on some of the city’s most vulnerable residents—single mothers raising children in crisis—reached over 600 individuals and provided not just relief, but a sense of dignity and recognition.
First Round of Support: 200 Families Reached
Between March 14 and March 28, 2025, the first instalment of the donation was used to support 200 heads of households, benefitting 405 individuals. Aid was distributed from the Single Mothers CBO office to refugee families in Faisal, Ard al-Lewa, Ain Shams, Lewa Garage, and October City.
Each household received a blanket, a bag packed with over seven nutritious food items, and transportation support—a package that offered immediate relief and practical assistance. The emotional thank-you video from recipients underscored just how rare and meaningful this type of support is in Cairo.
Second Round of Support: 136 More Families Assisted
From May 14 to May 20, 2025, the second instalment of the donation extended aid to another 136 heads of households, reaching 438 individuals. The same targeted support was provided—blankets, food parcels, and transport help—distributed through the Single Mothers CBO office.
This second wave focused on households led by single mothers living with HIV, mothers caring for children with disabilities, and those raising children on the autism spectrum. For many of these women, this kind of support is not just helpful—it’s life-changing.
A $10,000 Investment in Dignity and Survival
Thanks to the total $10,000 USD donation, over 600 Eritrean refugees in Cairo received essential care during one of the most difficult periods of their lives. This collaboration between EHO and the Single Mothers Association demonstrates the power of community-based aid when directed with compassion and purpose.
