EHO Emergency Relief for Eritrean Refugees in Sudan and Egypt
From February to August 2024, the Eritrean Humanitarian Organisation (EHO), in partnership with Ruwad al Rahma (Pioneers of Mercy), distributed a total of USD 21,000 (≈ 969,020 Egyptian Pounds) in humanitarian aid to support Eritrean refugees who fled the war in Sudan and were resettled in Cairo and surrounding areas.
This aid was distributed in four instalments, directly benefiting 934 Eritrean refugee families—representing 6,538 people (parents and children)—along with a few Somali and Djiboutian families. While EHO extended solidarity to other displaced communities, we prioritised supporting fellow Eritreans, who remain among the most vulnerable.

Donation Instalments and Impact
1st Instalment – March 2024
The first instalment supported 236 families, including Eritrean, Somali, and Djiboutian refugees. Families received urgent assistance with food, rent, and medical costs. This crucial first step helped stabilise displaced families during their initial days of crisis.
2nd Instalment – May 2024
The second instalment reached 221 Eritrean families who had fled the war in Sudan. Support was directed towards emergency food and shelter costs, protecting families from extreme hardship while they rebuilt their lives in Cairo.
3rd Instalment – June – July 2024
In July, EHO delivered aid to 59 heads of households, representing 235 families, across refugee-dense areas of Faisal, Ard Al-Lewa, and October. With USD 5,000 (≈ 238,640 EGP), families received assistance covering food, housing, and medical treatment. This support prevented homelessness and provided vital healthcare.
4th Instalment – August 2024
The final instalment between August 11–25, 2024, supported 62 heads of households, representing 242 families. With USD 5,000 (≈ 207,000 EGP), families were able to pay for essential food supplies, rent, and urgent medical care, ensuring dignity and stability during a time of displacement.
